Where to stay in Waikiki ~ Holiday Surf hotel

Holiday Surf hotel General description:

• The Holiday Surf hotel is a small budget category family hotel located on Ala Wai boulevard within the red area of our Waikiki map. The Holiday Surf hotel was built in the year 1969, it has 6 floors and a little over 30 units. The Holiday Surf hotel offers very little when it comes to common areas, there is a lobby and a front desk but no swimming pool or other amenities are available. Parking is limited but available.

What we like about the Holiday Surf hotel:

• Even though the hotel is all the way back to the Ala Wai canal, it is very centrally located like all the hotels that are located within the red area of our Waikiki map. The Ala Wai boulevard located along the canal is an excellent place for long walks along the canal’s banks.
• Many of the units in the Holiday Surf hotel have cooking facilities; this is especially good for families with children looking for budget accommodations or for longer stays.
• Small number of rooms means that the Holiday Surf hotel feels less crowded.
• The Holiday Surf hotel does not have too many parking stalls but it charges a lot lower parking fees than most of the hotels in the rest of Waikiki.

What you may not like about the Holiday Surf hotel:

• The Holiday Surf hotel has not seen any substantial renovation from the time that it was built, other than the regular cosmetic maintenance that is required to keep up with the wear and tear associated with the high use of a hotel in Waikiki.
• The lack of amenities, particularly a swimming pool can be a problem if you are traveling with minors.
• By definition small hotels have less employees and therefore less service, no restaurant or coffee shop in house, no bell boy and only one person at the front desk are only some examples of the differences that you will encounter in small hotels.
• Ala Wai boulevard is a very busy avenue and noise can be a problem, but then again, noise is a problem everywhere in Waikiki.
