Where to stay in Waikiki ~ Waikiki Beach Hotel

Where to stay in Waikiki ~ Waikiki Beach Hotel

Waikiki Beach Hotel General description:

Waikiki Beach Hotel Where to stay in Waikiki ~ Waikiki Beach Hotel
Waikiki Beach Hotel
  • The Waikiki Beach Hotel was originally built about 40 years ago in 1969 and is the Aston’s (former Resort Quest) flagship hotel for the Honolulu area. The property is located at the far end of Waikiki, very near the Honolulu Zoo and Kapiolani Park. In the 4 decades from its construction it changed several times ownership, management companies and names; it was even a Holiday Inn back in the 80′s.
The Waikiki Beach Hotel has a second floor front desk and pool area, accessible via escalators and elevators and a ground floor lobby with stores and a port cochere.
  • For years it had 2 towers, the main front one closest to the ocean and a back or “Mauka” tower (mauka, which means mountain in Hawaiian) in the back. This Mauka Tower was very old and was finally sold in 2006 and has become a separate hotel called Renew.
  • The Waikiki Beach Hotel underwent several renovations over the years, the last one a few years back elevated the star rating of the hotel from 2 to 3 stars.

What we like about the Waikiki Beach Hotel:

  • The Waikiki Beach Hotel is located just across the street from the Waikiki beach.
  • For those visitors looking to be close to the east end or “Diamond Head” end of Waikiki, the Waikiki Beach Hotel is in the perfect location.

What you may not like about the Waikiki Beach Hotel:

  • The Waikiki Beach Hotel hotel tends to be too expensive for its category, if you need to be in that side of Waikiki, you may want to try the Marriott that is on the next city block on Kalakaua Ave. The rates are very similar and the hotel is a lot better (it is a 4 stars).
  • If you do not need to be in that area you should try something more central, like the Ohana Waikiki Beachcomber, this hotel is also on Kalakaua Ave. and it is also a 3 star hotel but a lot more central than this one and they finished a major renovation at the end of 2007.
  • If you are planning to go to the beach in front of the Waikiki Beach Hotel, keep in mind that is not very wide. Nice wide beaches can be found at the Ala Moana beach park, Kailua and Waimanalo but no hotels are available near those beaches.
  • Like all hotels in Waikiki, the Waikiki Beach Hotel parking is extra and in the case of this hotel is also VERY limited. If you are planning to stay in this hotel you may want to rethink that car rental since parking is on a first come first serve basis (cannot be reserved).
